Transforming Agriculture and Uplifting Rural Communities

The Economic Transformation Initiative Gilgit-Baltistan (ETI-GB) is a $133.72 million development program led by the Planning and Development Department, Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, and supported by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS). The programme was initiated in 2015 initially for seven years till 2022, to combat poverty and malnutrition in the rural areas of the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. The programme was extended till 2029 following the ECNEC approval in 2025. Operating across all ten districts, ETI-GB aims to uplift 100,000 rural households by integrating economic infrastructure, value chain support, program management, and policy development.

The Economic Transformation Initiative was launched in 2015 with a development goal of improving incomes and reducing poverty and malnutrition in rural Gilgit-Baltistan. Following ECNEC approval in 2025, the programme is extended through 2029, working across all ten districts with the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, IFAD and AICS.
